The Day I Met the Hedgehog
Vivian 6th Grade
I was walking in the woods,
so many trees,
and a hedgehog came,
“Do you want some tea?”
“What?”
“I got biscuits and cream…
Cream for the tea,
Not for biscuits.”
He was only up to my knees.
He had a striped bow tie.
He had a plaid vest,
Colors of brown.
Chestnut, beige, buff and coffee.
He had dark brown boots.
“Yes, I would like some tea.”
In the bushes, under the roots,
Feet in the water, head in the leaves.
A hole, a burrow, in the ground.
“It’s home sweet home,
It’s safe and sound.”
I had to crouch to get through the door.
A pot on a open fire,
Water boiling for tea.
On a table,
The tea and cream.
“It’s 4:03,”
He says,
“Late for the tea!
At the table was the tea,
Black, yellow, herbal and green.
The afternoon was long,
Soon the night started.
Over a log,
Feet in a river.
“I have to go,
Will you still be here?”
“If you’re in time for the tea,
Then yes.”
