Outdoor Ed
Hikes, Games, and Cabins

6th Grade
We were driving through the mountains and trees on a drive to an overnight field trip.
It was my second at North Star and I was excited. I was about to go hiking and sleep in cabins. The bus just turned into a parking lot and the bus driver told us to stay seated. We filed out of the bus and put our bags in a pile. Then we sat on a log and got ready to get our cabins picked. Everyone was hoping to be with their friends. I am not sure if they had background information about us from the teachers because almost everyone liked their cabins.
We got lead to our cabins by a cabin leader. We had to do a little hike to even get up there because mine was on top of a hill. Our cabin had a private bathroom and multiple bunk beds. We chose our beds and put our stuff down and then got right to the hikes.
They picked hiking groups for us and we went on our first hike. It wasn’t too steep and their were lots of different types of trees. There was a refrigerator tree where no matter the weather it stayed cold. The hiking leaders were nice and we were put with almost all of our cabin in our hiking group.
We ate lunch in a cafeteria where we sat with our cabin. We could earn badges. The badges were a giant fork and a giant spoon, and every cabin wanted one. We played games during free time which was really fun. Everyone had something to do. You could play board games or basketball. I mostly played Stratego during those times.
Outdoor Ed was really fun and I will never forget it.
