I remember the fun five days I was in Yosemite- I see that when the bus came to a halt, this huge, half dome looking mountain towered over me. It was made purely of a rock called limestone.
Immediately, I recall us campers being set into a group with all our friends, and hiking groups with a combo of classmates. I remember the days we broke the rules and stayed up past midnight- no parents telling us to sleep, no hassle.
We played midnight poker and charades, as well as the occasional ‘Never Have I ever”, and in the day, we would hike to the utmost peaks and gaze down at the beauty below, we would climb rocks and hike for a few hours before sitting down and eating lunch in the pure wilderness.
I once saw deer trotting alongside the river, seemingly unfazed by us human folk. I encourage those going to Yosemite to go barefoot in the water, it's a soothing kind of cold that makes your sore hiking feet worth it.
Though, being one for honesty, I would suggest NOT eating dairy in the cafeteria, I did not have a bad experience with it- but dairy is such a thing you have to be careful around it, another thing is do drink a lot of water- you'll need it.
It's however very worth it when you see the view. And bring money, $20-25 is good for the coming back meal and the gift store full of small tokens of memory—do not go out past 10 pm because the stars are so amazing and bright you might as well be blinded.
My main tips include:
Avoid foods you have not tried yet
Listen to your counselor
Do NOT eat wild berries
Hydrate well
Take photos and lots of them
Get a token from the store to cherish forever
And last of all HAVE FUN!
