Night at North Star

Bathed in Moonlight

Naomi

6th Grade

I look around. I am surrounded by tents, bathed in moonlight. The field, usually sunny and fun, is dark and shadowy. Somewhere in the distance, a rustling noise comes from the bushes. I take a deep breath and look around, people are soundlessly sleeping, I see some of my friend’s tents, still lit by flashlights. I focus on the peace at which the school is at, and nothing is quite so scary. Thinking back to earlier, I remember pitching my tent next to my friends before running off to go play the game. Even though we weren’t on the same team, we still had so much fun on the mental and physical challenges, before we headed off to a dinner of hotdogs and hamburgers. After the game, we wandered about, eating popcorn and playing among the tents before the movie. After the movie, we played a mostly silent game of tag before brushing our teeth and turning in for the night. Now, the last sliver of daylight is gone, and shadows coat the field, their icy presence transforming the field into something cold and forbidding.
