A Three-Day Sleepover
Viana

Hikes, the Beach, and Hangouts Every Day!
I hop off the bus after a fun ride of carols, storytelling, and jokes. I find myself in a foggy, green, grassy land. There are trees surrounding me as sounds of the ocean crackle around. I see my classmates gathering in a circle around some logs, and I rush to join them. I find my friends, and walk over to say hi…
We are informed of our schedules, activities, and jobs for the day. Afterwards, our camp counselor tells us where our cabins are, and gives us a quick tour. Me and all the other girls in our grade gather around the door, buzzing to get in.
“Quick, Viana, come with us!”, my friends yell from the front of the door. “We found a bunking area!” I quickly cram in, becoming a part of the flood of girls attempting to enter the area. When I walk in, I see two rows of bunks, divided by walls that don’t quite reach the ceiling. My friends are all busy claiming beds among one of the sections towards the front of the room, as I find my own perfect spot to set up.
Later that night, me and one of my friends whom I was very fortunate to land in the same hiking group with were amazed to see the views we had of the sea. The cool, salty air wisps against my face as we walk across a black pebble beach. We hear whispering around us, but stay silent to really take in the moment. As we return across a low bridge overhead some tide pools, making our way back to our cabin, I spot the sun setting in the corner of my vision. In the cabin, me and my friends get cozy in our beds, chatting about adventures we each took on that day. We’re all excited as we get ready for the night. I close my eyes, never wanting to let go of this trip…
